Tall pines wave in the wind, the water ripples slightly and the sun dapples the soft forest floor in a myriad of colours. Muskoka has a mystical quality that calls you to experience the rugged beauty of the area.
Whether you live in the area or are just visiting, Muskoka's natural environment is worth exploring through hiking and biking trails or visits to one of the many parks in the area. Search for that remote waterfall or have a picnic atop a spectacuar scenic lookout and take in the glistening water and fantastic sunsets that exemplifies the beauty of Muskoka.
The Trans-Canada Trail passes right through the heart of Muskoka and has many attaching side trails to choose from. Muskoka is also home to the worlds first Dark Sky Preserve. The Torrance Barrens is the first park of it's kind to be created for the sole purpose of turning out the lights. The surrounding areas lighting is all regulated to ensure no light polution makes it to the remote rocky barrens. As remote as it is though, it's a short drive from Bala at only 5 minutes away.
Muskoka also has a great number of beaches on many of the 1600+ lakes that are scattered accross the region, take your pick, they're all worth visiting.
Events through the year include the Subaru Adventure Racing serries, a handfull of triathalons that garner thousands of participants, and many more local regatta's and sporting events.
