The sun will come out – in February! The Rotary Club of Bracebridge presents the Broadway classic, Annie, directed by Amy Bridle, as its 35th annual musical. This beloved show will be brought to life by the talented actors and musicians of Muskoka. It is the first time that Rotary has produced Annie, which is a bit surprising because it is such a great fit with the wonderful community tradition that the annual musical has become. For example, it is a show that is inspiring to all ages, and includes cast both young and old. It is very much a family show, where parents and children can share the experience of performing, or watch a joyous stage spectacular together.
For those who are not familiar with the play, this musical is based on the comic strip Little Orphan Annie, and tells the story of a spunky orphan during the years of the Great Depression. She is determined to find her parents, who left her at an orphanage run by the nasty Miss Hannigan. She conquers all the challenges she faces with a sunny disposition, a smart aleck attitude, a little luck and a loveable stray named Sandy. Annie’s adventures include defeating the conniving Miss Hannigan and her devious brother, meeting Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and bringing love and a family into the life of the world-weary millionaire, Oliver Warbucks.
